2 Month Checkup

Layna had her two-month appointment this week and had to get some vaccines. She cried for two seconds - such a good baby ! However, her temperature went up (like the nurse warned us), which made her cranky, but a little tylenol fixed that problem. Layna weighed in at 13 pounds and 3 ounces and measured 24 inches long ! Big Baby ! Also, we took a family outing to the UMass Dartmouth men's basketball game.

Layna is such a playful little baby these days ! She loves to smile and coo. Mommy and Daddy wake up to her playing in her crib - hands flying in the air and her little coos and sounds fill the air.

Since Layna's sleep schedule got messed up, she has taken some steps back. Mommy and Daddy let Layna fall asleep on them or carrying her or on the bottle :-( Some nights she will sleep through the night and other nights she'll wake up around 3. Hopefully she'll get back on a go schedule. Mommy isn't stricked when it comes to Layna's sleeping schedule. We are trying to get Layna to eat more but less often. So like 5-6 ounces every 5 hours, but that isn't working at all. She is still eating 4 (maybe 5) ounces every 3-4 hours. :-(

All is good and Layna is getting SO big ! The family is most likely taking a trip to Syracuse to visit Mommy's family. Everyone gets to meet Layna for the first time :-) Mommy can't wait ! Layna is going to big and a totally different baby from when she was born, but at least they get to meet her before she is walking...

Valentine's Day weekend

Layna's first Valentine's Day was good. Mommy took her to Grandma and Grandpa Robidoux's for the day and got to meet Aunt Rose, Pat, and cousin Connor for the first time. (Daddy's had to work.) Connor was on the go, crawling everywhere! He didn't know what to make of Layna. He was bigger than her, and she looked like a doll but was moving. He just stared at her. Layna behaved herself until she was due for a nap. She couldn't seem to stay asleep every time Mommy put her down. Finally, after her dinner time feeding, Mommy and Baby headed home, but first made a stop by Daddy's work to say hi.

Connor and Layna

Mommy, Daddy, and Baby all went out for a Valentine's Day dinner on Monday after Daddy got out of work. Layna was wide awake and sat on Daddy's lap looking around the restaurant. They put us in a booth in a corner - we were kind of secluded - which was good because Layna was gassy and eventually had a poop. Mommy had a feeling that was going to happen, knowing it was their luck she would have a dirty diaper when they were out, but thats ok.

Layna got a bath when we got home and her nice warm bottle afterwards, but didn't fall asleep. She was overtired again. Daddy held her and tried to get her to sleep, but that didn't work and suggested her seemed like she was still hungry. So, Mommy made another 4 ounce bottle, which Layna took. Yes, within an hour Layna ate 8 ounces and finally fell asleep at the last drop. Mommy is still in shock that Layna ate and held down all 8 ounces ! But Layna was asleep by 11 and slept til 6 30.

Today Layna is 2 months old ! She has changed SO much and Mommy can't believe how fast it went by.

Smiley !

Happy Valentine's Day

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY !

Mommy was practicing her photography skills to get this picture for Daddy. We both said that we should've had one of her newborn photos with this hat on. It's just sooo cute and she's already out growing it!

Schedules

Last weekend and Monday night Layna slept through the whole night, but her sleep schedule got all mixed up on Tuesday when Mommy had to go to class. So, Layna is back to waking up in the middle of the night between 3-4 and sleeps until 9 for a feeding and back to sleep. Layna tries to stay up for 3 -4 hours now and it takes about 2 hours to get her to fall asleep for her nap. Mommy is very unhappy this happened, and trying to get Layna back on her sleeping schedule.

Her feeding schedule is going good to, she seems to be taking 4 ounces now, but sometimes less.

Yesterday Mommy and Daddy took Layna to see a couple of Daddy's friends, so we had a long day. Layna got really cute jeans with fleece liner (extra warm!!) and a cute onesie from Gap and a bib. She is started to blow bubbles and drool a little, which means it is time to start breaking out the bibs !

Layna is 12 pounds 10 ounces and 22.5 inches long... I think, I said 23 inches the other day, but Daddy's measurements were a little off.

Layna is starting to like her showers. She watches the water and shower-head and likes the warm water. Mommy wishes she could take baths but theres no room for a baby tub and we dont have a tub for her, so she gets a shower. After her shower, mommy dries her in the bathroom and wraps her good in the towel but the minute we walk out of the bathroom she is crying from the cold. But we bundle her right up as fast as we can and give her a nice warm bottle to warm her back up!

fussy face because she just took a bath and is cold
but i love her this hat !

Changes..

Layna has had some little tweaks made her daily schedule. She is now receiving only formula, no more breast milk. It was taking a toll on Mommy, even though she loved the time spent feeding the little one. Formula feeding means Layna's bowel movements are changing... the number of dirty diapers are changing to less but boy, are they stiiiinky!! Layna has some smelly farts and poops haha it's so cute because she is this little beautiful bundle and you wouldn't expect it.

Along with formula feeding we have switched from 2 ounces every 2 hours to 3 ounces every 3 hours. Mommy read somewhere that the amount of formula your baby should be taking in is 2.5 times the baby's weight; that would be 30 plus ounces for Layna. She weighed in at 12 pounds some ounces last week. She's getting about half of that and isn't complaining. If she wants more, she can have it, but that is usually for the morning feeding now. Yes, no more middle of the night feedings anymore. (knock on wood!).

This weekend she has slept through the night every night ! Mommy and Daddy have figured out her sleeping schedule..more importantly her evening schedule, so she can get her last feeding in between 10:30-12:30 and sleep til the morning. There's no point in putting Layna to bed at 8 or 9 because she will wake up for one more feeding, and that is her last playtime to make her time and fall asleep after her 11 oclock feeding.

So, Layna Elizabeth is doing very well. Having gas still bothers her and either we have gotten used to the crying through the pains or it seems a little better. She is more alert nowadays. She loves being talked to and when she is wide awake, she loves smiling ! Also, I have realized that she is getting to the point that sometimes she just doesn't want to be held, and if nothing seems to calm her down when she's crying, I just see if she wants some alone time lol and it usually works ! Let's see... she watched part of her first football game. Part of the game she sat in her bouncy chair and then she moved to laying on her Boppy pillow on her belly with Daddy and then she made her way to Daddy's chest and took a nap. She is changing and talking - well, squeaking more like it - but she has changed a lot since the day she was born !

First Week of Classes

The first two weeks back at school have been challenging for every one - Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, and Grandpa. With Layna staying up to the wee early hours of the morning, it has been difficult for Mommy and Daddy to get up to head to early classes. Also, Mommy has been putting off homework involuntarily. There always seems like something to do besides homework - changing diapers, comforting Baby, playing with Baby, feeding Baby, and when Baby is finally asleep, Mommy just wants to rests and homework slips her mind...

This is the first couple of weeks for the spring semester along with this first week of Layna learning something for herself:  falling asleep on her own. Even though it may take at most 10, maybe 15 minutes, of her crying, Layna does finally realize that Mommy and Daddy aren't coming to pick her up, and it's time to go to bed for all :-) This is a difficult thing for Mommy since she has been running to Layna's every cry and comforting her 24/7 for 6 weeks straight, but in order for everyone to fall into a schedule and to get rest, this must be done... and so the bad habit of her falling asleep with someone can be broken.

Mommy found a new way to calm Layna down: move her legs. I was playing with her legs - her "leg exercises" - making her walk, run, march, do tuck jumps and frog jumps - cheerleading things to improve jumps. So just sits in her bouncy chair and watches her feet move..... or falls asleep. Whatever works.... Mommy tried holding her on her belly a few weeks back and pat her back or rub her belly, which also calms the little one down. Like I said, whatever works...

We made a trip to the doctors on February 1st, and Baby Girl weighed in at 12 pounds ... and some ounces. And Daddy measured her this week and she was 23 inches long ! Layna is 7 weeks this week!

rarely does she fall  asleep like this....
usually she likes to just look around

loves her arms and legs hanging
